At Northward Compass, we focus on storytelling. One of our favorite ways to do that is through games. As we play and build video games for ourselves, and our clients, we do a lot of thinking about what it takes to make a game truly great.
We started Fog of Games as a way to talk about what we find as we’re brainstorming, writing, and building games.
Why Is It Called “Fog Of Games”?
Back in the day, before World of Warcraft, before Warcraft 3, there was Warcraft 2. For many of us, Warcraft 2 introduced us to the concept of “Fog of War.” (Fog of War is a real military concept.) The idea is that when you’re focused on your actions in one place, you probably can’t see everything else that’s going on. So you need to get some military intelligence to that area to report back.
That also turns out to be a great metaphor for building games. As creatives, we tend to get into a project and focus hard on what we have in front of us. We often do that to the point where we lose focus on the related tasks.
At Fog of Games, we want to help you make progress on your game when you need it most. We can’t wait to see what you build.
